Pros y contras de las compensaciones de carbono basadas en la naturaleza para el financiamiento de la conservación

¿Por qué asistir a esta sesión?
You will participate in a discussion, with 7 panelists, on the issues surrounding the use of nature-based carbon offsets for conservation financing. The strengths of a carbon offsets approach and the cautions and limitations, will be identified and recommendations made on whether carbon offsets can be a credible tool to fund conservation.
HideDescripción
The challenges, barriers and risks of nature-based carbon offsets as a tool to supplement direct reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, or to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from land use and land use change, will be discussed. Lessons learned from over 25 years of carbon offsets, gaps in biodiversity safeguards, and uncertainties arising from disturbances, such as increasing fire in natural ecosystems, will be addressed. Recommendations on whether the evidence supports or rejects the use of carbon offsets for conservation will be included in a follow-up report to the forum.
